1. Narrow AI (Weak AI)
- Definition: Narrow AI (also called Weak AI) is a type of artificial intelligence that is designed and trained to perform a specific task or a limited range of tasks very well.
- It does not have general intelligence or consciousness.
- It can’t “think” beyond its programmed function.
- Examples:
- Siri, Alexa (voice assistants).
- Netflix’s recommendation system.
- Spam filters in email.
- Siri, Alexa (voice assistants).
2. General AI (Strong AI)
- Definition: General AI (also called Strong AI or Artificial General Intelligence, AGI) is a type of artificial intelligence that can understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks—just like a human.
- It can reason, solve problems, and adapt to unfamiliar situations.
- Unlike Narrow AI, it’s not limited to one specific function.
- It would have the ability to transfer learning from one domain to another (e.g., learning math and then applying logic skills to cooking).
- This level of AI does not yet exist — it’s still a research goal.
- Status: Still theoretical — no true general AI exists yet.
- Goal: An AI that could reason, problem-solve, and make decisions in multiple fields without retraining.
